on to Chetwynd & Dawson Creek 6-12,13-2012

On our last nite in Whiskers Point we had a beautiful sunset. But to see the sunsets here you have to stay up late. The sun doesn’t start setting till after 10pm. This is from behind the Motor Home.

The drive was full of rural country rolling hills, winding hwy & followed the river most of the way. All the yellow flowers were a great crop of Dandelions. I have never seen so many. They were along the Hwy almost the whole way.

We saw wildlife too, A Black Bear & 2 young Grizzly Bears.Only got the one Grizzly. The other hid behind some bushes before I could get it’s smiling pose.

Again there was some construction in several areas. Friends Joe & Cheryl might enjoy this pix of the striper painting as they used to do this for a living.

First town after the park was Chetwynd, BC. A very nice small town with over 80 wood Carvings throughout the town. It all started in 1990 when the town decided to commission 3 bear carvings for the town sign in conjunction of the Alaska Hwy. 50th anniversary. In 2005 they hosted the first annual Chetwynd International Chainsaw Carving Championship. They have Chainsaw Carvers from as far away as Japan & Wales. The Competition is now held the 2nd weekend in June every year. Except for the first two, these are just a few of the ones carved just a couple days before we got there.  The one next to the bear moves around like a water wheel.

As I mentioned earlier that we have gone through several different construction projects. And we became the casualty of a careless dump truck driver. Before we head out tomorrow were going to a glass shop & see if they can put in a clear fill to keep it from running. It’s too big for a simple fill. We’ll see how it comes out. The first pix I took right after the hit & the 2nd is one Steve took after we stopped from the outside. It’s in the lower corner on the driver side. It’s bigger than a golf ball. Before we left Dawson Creek we went to a window repair shop & they used a clear epoxy filler to help seal the damage. It did run into most of the finger runs. We’ll see if it holds us till we return to WA.

We arrived in Dawson Creek in the afternoon. Below are the different markers of Mile “0” the start of the Alaskan Hwy. From Dawson Creek, BC through the Yukon Territory & into Alaska.
