Watson Lake Sign Post Forest 6-19-2012

We didn’t do alot today. This morning I caught up the blog & then we went into town to ck out the sights. And we put up our sign. I have been printing the blog & mailing them to my mom so we found the post office.

Some of our friends came in 2009 & we found there signs. A couple other friends have been here too but didn’t find there’s. But then there are over 71,000 signs posted in the forest. So Chuck & Lorraine, Mark & Sue your signs are doing just fine.

The Sign Post forest got started during WWII in 1942 with the construction of the Alaska Hwy. The American army posted directions to various points of interest in the Yukon & added New York, Chicago, & Tokyo. A homesick GI was working on a damaged signposts & put up one for his hometown in Illinois.

These flowers are around outside where we are parked I think the yellow one is a Yukon Goldenweed and is one of 5 Yukon plants found nowhere else on earth. The next one is the Artic Lupine & is most common wildflower in the Yukon.

Not sure what the other flower is unless a wild Flax? The Bat house is just behind us & reminded me of the Bat house our grandson Spencer built for a Cub Scout project. although his wasn’t that big. I guess bats have been a problem out @ the airport getting into some of the buildings.

That’s it for today. Tomorrow we will head out early. Probably stop near Teslin on our way to Whithorse.

Just a reminder if you click on a pix you can view if bigger.
