From Chicken to Tok & Valdez June 27 & 28, 2012

We didn’t stay in Chicken as we thought we would. Guess that’s why they say plans are set in Jell-O, written in chalk or drawn on an et-cha-sketch. Instead we headed for Tok, AK. We had mail waiting there for us.

We spent the nite in Tok parked behind the Chevron gas station across from the visitor center. There we were also able to dump & take on fresh water free with a fill up of gas. I’m not sure who got the better deal. We hadn’t gotten gas since Whitehorse so it was a $325.05 free dump & that was with a 10 cents off a gal with a coupon from one of the visitor flyers. On the 28th we headed for Valdez. But first we had to stop @ a beverage store. They don’t sell any alcohol in the grocery stores and Steve was out of his beer. He was able to make what he brought through the Canadian border last till Tok. This store with the horse on the roof is a beverage store.

The pix to right just shows the change in vegetation as were climbing elevation 2678 the pole to left of pix is a guide poll for the snow plows to know where the rd is. Valdez got 440 inches of snow this last winter that’s about 37 ft. The elevation sign has been shot by guns & had stickers put on it :-(
